This sculpture combines the attributes of two major Hindu gods — Brahma the Creator and Shiva (pronounced SHIH-vah) the Destroyer. His four faces symbolize Brahma’s dominion over the four quarters of the universe. The third eye on his forehead reflects Shiva’s all-seeing nature. His hands are raised in gestures of protection and charity. Brahma-Shiva reminds believers that creation and destruction are intimately linked.
